Skism - Somebody's Baby
Skism is a hardcore punk band that emerged from New York City in 1989. After a long hiatus, the band relaunched in 2021 featuring: Wynn Skism (Vocals/Bass), Vinny Tufariello (Guitar/Backing Vocals), and Tony Sacc (Drums). Known for their raw aggressive sound, the trio have carved out a distinct space in the NY hardcore scene by blending elements of hardcore, punk, and Oi!
The band’s latest 9-song release titled, “Somebody's Baby”, features four new tracks and new versions of older songs. The album showcases the bands evolution while staying true to their hardcore roots. Each song is packed with lyrics that tend to reflect themes of social and political issues. The guitar sound smacks you with gritty distortion and power chords, while the rhythm section delivers the backbone that drives each track forward. Some of my favorite tracks are “Somebody’s Baby Wears Combat Boots”, “Knocked Down With a 40”, “2025”, and “Nomad”.
In a time when hardcore punk tends to feel diluted, Skism stands out as a reminder of the genre's raw power. For fans of hardcore punk seeking authenticity and intensity, Skism delivers. If you haven’t yet experienced their music, now is the perfect time to dive in and embrace the chaos they offer.
